Studio Policies
ARRIVAL
Please arrive 5 minutes early, get your violin and music out and be ready for your turn. A parent or guardian 18 years of age or older must be present for children younger than 8 years old.
For current students, my payment, cancellation and rescheduling policies will be changing in January, 2016.
For new students, the new policy will be effective immediately.
NEW Payment Policy*
I will no longer prorate lessons. The monthly cost of lessons will be a fixed rate of $120, payable by cash or
check at the first lesson of each month. If you are not present at that lesson, please mail your check to me. I
teach 45 weeks and lead 2-3 student recitals per year. I do not teach the week of Thanksgiving, the week of
Christmas and the week after, President's week, Spring Break, and I take 2 weeks off in the summer.
NEW Cancellation & Rescheduling of Lessons Policy
Do not come to lessons sick beyond a minor cold, especially if you have had a fever or have thrown up in the last 24 hours, or are otherwise contagious.
Student Cancellations
When possible, please give 24-hours notice if you must miss a lesson for any reason. For missed lessons
where 24-hour notice has been given, you may reschedule.** Missed lessons do not decrease the following
month's lesson fee, as lessons are not prorated. If no notice is given and you have a "no show," you will not be
given the opportunity to reschedule. Same-day cancellations are now treated the same as "no shows." Please remember that my time is valuable and this is my source of income.
Student Vacations
For lessons you know ahead of time will conflict with your schedule (vacations, school or work events, etc.),
please work with me to find alternative days for those lessons where possible, or we may lengthen the time of
future lessons to compensate. If you will be out of town for weeks or months, you are now expected to pay for
those months, but you have the opportunity to reschedule** those lessons.
Teacher Cancellation
If I must cancel a lesson, I will reschedule with you or lengthen the time of a future lesson.
*Many teachers charge a set monthly lesson fee and allow 0 or only 2 makeup lessons per year. I understand that life happens and kids get sick, schedules conflict, and families like to go on vacation. I believe my new policy is fair for both the student's family and the teacher because under this policy students are guaranteed the opportunity to makeup lessons that are properly cancelled and rescheduled and the teacher is guaranteed a reliable, consistent income. Simply put: every student's family gets 45 lessons** and 2-3 recitals each year, and I get paid the same amount every month.
**It is the responsibility of the student's family to reschedule properly cancelled lessons.
RECITALS
There will be at least one recital and one performance in the community each year. A small fee (no more than $25 per family) may be collected before the recital if an outside accompanist is needed or public recital space must be rented. Most recitals will be held at a local church, senior center or rest home, for which there will be no facility fee.
BRING TO EVERY LESSON
Bring your violin, shoulder rest, all music books, a pencil, and a notebook for the parent to take notes in to every lesson. You may also bring a phone, camera, or recorder to take pictures and/or record important points during the lesson.
Musically,
Jen Campbell
