How I Teach
I specialize in teaching beginning violin students, so most of my teaching style is geared towards younger children. However, I have taught students in ages ranging from 3 to 30.
I tailor my teaching style to fit each individual student. I use a variety of techniques to appeal to visual, auditory, and sensory learners. I use games, charts, and awards to help with students' motivation to practice, and I teach my students what and how to practice so they won't be confused when they pull out their violin at home.
The average learner will at times become frustrated. I view it as my job (and the parent's job at home) to keep the frustration level low. If a student becomes frustrated, it's natural. If a child remains frustrated for long, it's my fault. I do my best to prevent frustration and facilitate ease of playing. "Practice makes it easy," it has been said. The Suzuki Method helps keep frustration levels low by introducing something new only after previous skills have been mastered.
I invite you to submit your comments on the contact page (or visit my blog and comment!) about the teachers and teaching styles that most inspired you or your child. There is always room for improvement and I love learning new ways that I can fully engage and inspire my students!
